Classroom Learning and Discipline Philosophy

It is a common saying that all men are created equal.  While that is true, no one is really the same.  We all have different personalities, actions, attitudes and learning abilities.  Based on that concept, I try my best to make things fair in my classroom—whether that is with learning or discipline.  FAIR DOES NOT MEAN EQUAL.  Some parents may have a hard time understanding that, so above is a picture of what it means.

There are many situations that come up in a school year, and I need you to know that I am going to do my best to be fair.  Keep in mind that I have more than one to take care of and sometimes that creates unique situations.  And be aware of my rules.  These rules help make my classroom run efficiently so proper learning can take place, and so that kids feel secure and welcome.  It might not seem like a big deal for a child to get in trouble in first grade for talking, but if I don’t enforce that, then learning is simply not possible!   Even as adults we have to follow the rules of wherever we are whether we like them or not!  And if we choose not to follow the rules we have to accept the consequences set in place.  I have high expectations for behavior, but try to be fair and respectful to every student.
