The only nightly homework first grade has is Reading.  Children will bring home a story for their reading homework each night.  Have your child read the words on the inside cover and the story to you.  Once they are finished, have them fill out the written part of their read and respond and you sign it.  Return all of these things to school in the homework folder. HOMEWORK SHOULD ONLY TAKE 20 MINUTES.  Set a timer for 20 minutes and stop at whatever point they are at when it goes off.  At the beginning of 2nd quarter we will also have weekly spelling words.  These can be practiced as part of the 20 minutes or reading time.

 

If they have their Read and Respond signed every day for 2 weeks they get a free night off reading pass!

If for some reason a student does not use their time wisely in class or needs some extra help on a concept, we would send home that work with a note on it, and they will have to complete it at home.
